Pair of Rocchettone Occasional Tables

Ettore Sottsass’s pair of Rocchettone occasional tables was designed for Poltronova in 1964. Each table has a dyed wood cylindrical base with a round top and foot, accented by a red lacquered collar near the base. The pair retains the manufacturer’s labels and is documented in Domus 433, published in December 1965.

About the Maker
Ettore Sottsass (1917–2007) was an Italian architect and designer whose work helped reshape 20th-century design. Born in Innsbruck and educated in Turin, he opened his Milan studio in 1947 and worked across furniture, ceramics, glass, lighting, electronics, interiors and architecture. From the 1950s, he designed important works for Olivetti and Poltronova, and in 1981 he organized the Memphis Group, whose bold postmodern language became one of the most influential design movements of its generation.
