Pair of Renna Coat Racks

Bruce Tippett’s Renna coat racks were produced by Gavina in Italy in 1965. Each lacquered wood stand has a central column with adjustable, rib-like arms that can be oriented outward, giving the functional coat rack the presence of a kinetic object. The pair retains its original label and is documented in Casa Vogue in 1971.

About the Maker:
Bruce Tippett (1933–2017) was a British artist and designer who studied at Leicester School of Art and the Slade School of Fine Art in London. His work was exhibited internationally and acquired by institutions including MoMA, the Victoria and Albert Museum and the Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna in Rome. While artist-in-residence at Gavina’s factory in Foligno, Italy, Tippett designed the Renna coat stand, later associated with Knoll after Gavina was acquired.
