Studio Minale-Maeda’s Dusk/Dawn mirrors are a 2010 design produced by Droog in a limited edition of 30. Made with optical filter glass, concrete and steel, the pair transforms the traditional mirror into a study of colored reflection: one orientation evokes dusk, while the other evokes dawn. This example is numbered 6/30 and is incised “Minale-Maeda 2013 6/30 droog” on the back of one mirror. The model was named one of the best domestic designs in the 2011 Wallpaper* Design Awards.

About the Maker: Studio Minale-Maeda is a Rotterdam-based design studio formed by Mario Minale and Kuniko Maeda. Founded in 2006, the studio works from a conceptual approach to contemporary culture, creating objects and furniture that often reframe familiar materials, structures and domestic forms. The pair met while completing master’s degrees at Design Academy Eindhoven, after earlier studies in industrial design and design science.
