“Domus Nova” Sideboard

An exceptional sideboard from Gio Ponti and Emilio Lancia’s historically important “Domus Nova” series. The architectural composition is executed in richly figured, bookmatched walnut veneer, with circular pulls, open compartments and turned supports creating a striking balance of ornament and geometric order. Conceived during a formative period in Italian modern design, the piece has been authenticated by the Gio Ponti Archives.

About the Makers:
Gio Ponti (1891–1979) and Emilio Lancia (1890–1973) were Italian architects and designers who worked in partnership in Milan from the 1920s through the early 1930s. Ponti became one of the defining figures of modern Italian design, working across architecture, furniture, ceramics, lighting and publishing. He founded Domus magazine and designed landmarks including Milan’s Pirelli Tower. Lancia was a leading figure of Milanese architecture whose work helped shape the Novecento Italiano movement through a modern interpretation of classical Italian forms.
