Pair of Counterbalance Hanging Lamps
A pair of adjustable hanging lamps designed by Lisa Johansson-Pape and produced by Valinte Oy in Finland circa 1945. Each features a brass ceiling fixture and cylindrical counterweight supporting a broad conical shade made of wood veneer and silk. Each counterweight is impressed “Valinte OY.”

About the Maker:
Lisa Johansson-Pape (1907–1989) was one of Finland’s foremost 20th-century lighting designers. Trained in furniture design, she began designing lighting for Stockmann-Orno in 1942 and became instrumental in the development of modern Finnish lighting. Her work received a silver medal at the 1951 Milan Triennale, a gold medal in 1954 and Finland’s prestigious Pro Finlandia medal in 1957.
