Salvaged Christ Mosaic Mural
Monumental and richly detailed, this mid-19th century mosaic mural depicts a crowned Christ figure composed of thousands of individually placed, hand-cut tiles. Salvaged from a church in the American Midwest, the work retains its original presence, with gold leaf smalti spanning the upper portion of the composition and an open Bible inscribed with the verse, “I AM THE WAY, THE TRUTH, AND THE LIFE.” The surface is alive with intricate detail and saturated color, reflecting the craftsmanship and scale of its original ecclesiastical setting. Preserved on its original concrete backing after being removed from the church wall, the piece carries both historical weight and striking visual impact.
