She studied art at Oberlin College and later earned a master’s degree in early childhood education from Bank Street College of Education. At Oberlin, she met Francis Hewitt of the Anonima Group and became a frequent collaborator with the collective, which was known for its investigations into optical perception and visual structure. Hewitt’s practice connects art, design and education. She founded Learning Materials Workshop in Burlington, Vermont, creating award-winning construction toys for children and adults, including custom designs for MoMA, the Museum of Arts and Design and the New Museum.
