He studied civil engineering in Milan and later earned an architecture degree from the IUAV University of Venice in 1949. In 1947, Gardella co-founded Azucena with Luigi Caccia Dominioni and Corrado Corradi Dell’Acqua to produce furniture and furnishings for the buildings they designed.
