About the Maker:
Thomas Scheibitz is a German painter and sculptor born in Radeberg, Germany, in 1968. He studied at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts from 1991 to 1998 and received his MFA under Professor Ralf Kerbach in 1998. He is based in Berlin. Scheibitz is recognized for work that moves between figuration and abstraction. Sprüth Magers describes him as “among the most important German painters and sculptors of his generation,” noting that since the early 1990s he has developed a conceptual approach to painting and sculpture shaped by art-historical references and a sustained interest in the relationship between recognizable forms and abstraction. In 2005, Scheibitz represented Germany at the 51st Venice Biennale alongside Tino Sehgal, a major international platform for contemporary art. His work is held in public collections including the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, the Carnegie Museum of Art, the Denver Art Museum, and the Centre d’Art Contemporain in Geneva.
