Sound sculpture by Val Bertoia, made in 2024 from monel and brass. The work is composed of eleven vertical rods rising from a brass base, each topped with a cylindrical brass element. The base is impressed with the artist’s signature and number, B-2935, and the work is sold with a certificate of authenticity from the artist.

About the Maker: Val Bertoia (b. 1949) is an American sculptor and the son of Harry Bertoia. He began working with his father at Bertoia Studio in 1971 and worked alongside him from 1972 to 1978, helping create and install large-scale commissioned metal sculptures. After Harry’s death in 1978, Val continued the studio’s sound-sculpture practice with the encouragement of his mother, Brigitta Bertoia. Harry Bertoia’s Sonambient works turned metal sculpture into something seen, heard and felt. Val’s work extends that legacy through precisely engineered sound sculptures made from resonant metals. Each sculpture made after November 1978 is numbered beginning with B-01; this example, B-2935, sits within that continued studio lineage.
